Weird. I poked around there, had to turn off the auto block feature in FF3... nothing has seemed that different the past couple of weeks other than the layout change.

I always wash my hands after using GWO to prevent viruses.

I stopped going there after they started that new ad thing. I completely disagreed with it and thought they handled the execution and response badly.

When I read the thread title I immediately thought about the posts asking why they were being redirected from the site and ,when they were arguing about the ads, about how GWO had had a virus or something before and the staff didn't really acknowledge it at first.

I figured it was time to move on. Sucks for them.

Well, they kinda deserved it with their annoying ads and policies around them.

If they prefer to ban people who don't like ads with 80 decibel sound rather than switching to reasonable ad provider ... too bad for them, i don't feel slightest pitty.

Options are nice.
You go to GWO to post pictures of pretty armours.
You go to GURU to listen to morons rampage. (The GWO morons aren't nearly as fun!)
Good times!

Since when they started banning people who don't like ads? Been visiting that site for almost 2 years and haven't seen a single ban because of that.

Hope they will sort this out soon

Well, try suggesting adblock or click-to-flash to someone who has problems browsing site because of ads. See what happens. See what happens to someone who saw that post before it was deleted and objects to your ban.

Its not like there is much of trace left after that.

I click them only by accident, really pisses me off.

Who wants ad's though? Even the people who set them up probably don't want them, you can't blame anyone really.

However banning someone for showing how to block them - if that is real, I'm never going to that site just for that, not to mention everything else. I'm satisfied with Guru anyway, I think it's the best.

Reminds how I got banned in GWO from registering to site. There was no reason given but rules state that blocking AD is banable offense (they maybe detected Adblock Plus extension). After some time via complaining in Guild Wars Guru about it, I was unbanned from GWO from permanent ban.

Enough people at GWO complained about the ads, you'd have thought they would have found a different way of dealing with it. Banning people who want to protect their systems is just wrong.

I use a couple of anti spyware programs. I just did a quick scan, nothing was found. After switching off my active protection on one of them, I went to GWO and browsed 3 pages

I did a quick scan with the other, and found A yieldmanager cookie and one from doubleclick. Both of these are rated low risk tho

I did the same test for guru and the PC was still clean afterwards.

Now I know cookies are'nt always dangerous and I have no idea if these ones are, but maybe this is what Google picked up on?

Those are "tracker" cookies which try to piece together your identity based on which pages you surf to (granted that those pages are part of that "service".)

They are used to target ads at you, personally, based on your habits and interests.

Not really nice stuff, but not real danger either. Worth removing and blocking.

I visit that site sometimes, but this makes me want to do all kinds of scans now. My friend frequents it regularly though, so I'll be mentioning this stuff to him for sure, if he doesn't know already. >.<

Meh, I guess this is bad, but I always found Guru to be better, for certain reasons that would cause a flamefest.

What an idiotic term, "badware". At least Firefox 3 reports it as an "attack site", which is kinder on my English Processing Unit.

Well a site that only exists because of adverts...yeah they have every right to.

Edit - Just been there. Firefox has no issue with it, neither does McAfee Siteadvisor.

I wish they were a bit more specific about what kinds of "badware" (malware is a much better term) the site has. It's one thing to say "Danger!" but much more helpful to tell what kind of danger you should be on the look out for (both for the users and the site admins trying to fix the problem).

Forget that, wait till you get some double-plus-un-good-ware and your computer gives you a seizure while stealing your GW account and credit card info!

This policy of theirs has always bugged me. They're setting policy about things they have no realistic control over (client-side browsers). The only good thing is they have no way to enforce it unless you say something I wouldn't mind if they just asked people not to talk about it, it's the having a policy section about not using it that goes to far.

Other then that they're a decent fan forum, though.

Yeah but up to a point.

Its funny how sites with less visits have less ads than sites that have many visits. Logic would suggest otherwise, a site that has low trafic would need more ads to make up for the costs of keeping it up, while the big site needs less ads... but no, not in the real world.

what does a milionaire want? ... more millions!
